On the American prog-rock station Martha’s Vineyard Radio (www.mvyradio.com)
the presenter Jer Bear settles in for his 61st evening show devoted
exclusively to the Grateful Dead. “It’s Big Fat Tuesday, hey-now
hey-now, time to chakamaka we are solid with the band. Put on your
socks.”

Shakedown Stream is a weekly Grateful Dead radio/podcast show hosted by Jer Bear. It is 4 to 5 hours in length. The first hour is a mix of old, rare, new, favorite and interesting songs of the Grateful Dead. Then Jer Bear plays a show - in its' entirety - selected from their 30 years run from 1965-1995. Afterwards, some more chestnuts may be played to help listeners ease on out of the Stream.

Volunteer Your Light !
"One way or another, this darkness got to give," as the song goes. How true it is. This is the darkest week of the year until Winter Solstice - Friday the 21st - then we turn back towards the sunlight. It is time for all of us to leave our psychological and spiritual junk in the darkness and plant some new seeds of positivity. Let It Grow! Let's plant these seeds of light and love in my home state of Connecticut, where so many lights have been lost at the darkest time of the year. We need each other to make it through this time - so turn on your light, and let it shine, shine, shine, let it shine.
This week on Shakedown Stream™, we support our brothers and sisters who are displaced by Storm Sandy during this holiday season. We are going to Long Island, New York - the Nassau Coliseum. The choice of an informal poll of listeners was the year 1982. Please join me and all your fellow Streamers in the flow of the Grateful Dead on Shakedown Stream™.

Father DeadHead
"What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." And yet, here is a deadhead story that needs to be shared. WE all know by now that deadheads come in many shapes and sizes as well as professional, educational and economic backgrounds. I believe this article may surprise even us.
"His favorite band was the Grateful Dead. His favorite singer, Carrie Underwood. His favorite destination, the island of Maui. His favorite dish to prepare, leg of lamb." Read on - click here.

Coffee Table Dead
There are still new christmas gift ideas for your deadhead loved-ones. Check this out - I just learned of this new coffee table book about Grateful Dead poster art. "The coffee table book tells the story of poster art through the Grateful Dead, which frequently partnered with artists, and offers chronological evolution of the art from the band's beginning in 1965 through Jerry Garcia's death in 1995."

Streaming Support for MVYRadio
WE started something special here on MVYradio.com. Shakedown Stream has brought together fans of the Grateful Dead -deaheads- across the nation and the world every week. Streamers are coming together again to help save mvyradio.
"I first saw the Dead in 1967, and have
been listening to your stream for about 3 years. While I normally
prefer to just listen to music, your commentary and choice of music each
week is an integral part of the overall experience. You exude the love
and peace which is part of the Dead experience. I was shocked at the
news that my weekly dose of the stream may stop and contributed.
Regardless of what happens, I hope you find a way to continue the stream
as long as you enjoy it, because your energies result not only in the
continuation and expansion of the Dead community, but more important,
the spread of peace and positive vibes throughout the planet. Your
presence in my life and the lives of so many others is wanted so much.
Sending love....
Ilan."

Save MVYRadio
Yes, my dear friends, it is true. WMVY radio sold 92.7fm to WBUR - a public radio station out of Boston. However, the music has not stopped YET! There is hope. If we receive $600,000 in 60 days, MVYradio can stay alive for another year as an internet non-commercial radio station. For us Streamers, this will be an easy switch since we already do Dead radio on the internet.
Peace - Jer Bear
