Shakedown Stream™ will no longer be available for download at the beginning of the year. For almost 6 years, mvyradio.com has made it possible for listeners to download each episode every week. It is sad news and a real bummer. So many of you streamed the podcast in your own ways; smart phones, iPad, or some type of listening device. It was convenient for commuting to work, running marathons or hanging with our friends and family. Thank you everybody for your positive vibes every week. You all kept me going. I was and still am stoked to keep finding the best Grateful Dead show to share with ya'll. Shakedown Stream will continue to be available for streaming on mvyradio.com, Tunein, SoundCloud or Stitcher. Thank you, thank you & thank you. Peace - Jer Bear
Shakedown Stream is a weekly Grateful Dead radio/podcast show hosted by Jer Bear. It is 4 to 5 hours in length. The first hour is a mix of old, rare, new, favorite and interesting songs of the Grateful Dead. Then Jer Bear plays a show - in its' entirety - selected from their 30 years run from 1965-1995. Afterwards, some more chestnuts may be played to help listeners ease on out of the Stream.

Billy K is Grateful
"I woke up this morning after Thanksgiving, feeling thankful and Grateful, and now that the tryptophan is wearing off, I'm in the mood for a good ole' fashioned holiday ball and dance. So come one, come all to Zodiacs in Petaluma, CA this Tuesday for my special gathering of friends David Nelson, Barry Sless, Reed Mathis and Jason Crosby. They will join in Billy Kreutzman's TryptoBand for a night of revelry, music and memories," announced Billy K.
And so it was, last night Mr. Kreutzman jammed and paid tribute to Bobby Keys and Phish.

Sex, Drugs and Rock n' Roll
In a recent article with Bob Weir (guitar player and singer for the Grateful Dead), he says this about drug use "Bottom line; you're better off straight. Stay the hell away from heroin; it'll take you out. It'll ruin your life." Plus, he comments on the late 80s as being at great time period for the Dead in terms of their playing as a Band "I loved what we were up to in the late 80s." READ MORE of ARTICLE

A New Dead Movie
Martin Scorsese - the famous movie director - has agreed to be the executive producer of a new Grateful Dead movie/documentary in anticipation of their 50th anniversary next year 2015. Mr. Scorsese has done this kind of thing before. He was the director on "The Last Waltz" - a famous movie of The Band's last concert at the Winterland Arena in San Francisco. Amir Bar-Lev will be the director of this Dead documentary set for their 50th anniversary. Rare and unseen film footage will be part of this cinematic endeavor. No name has been announced for this movie, maybe "Long Strange Trip" would work.

Fillmore West in San Francisco 1969
Shakedown Stream resumes the conversation this week with the Grateful Dead from 1969 at the Fillmore West in San Francisco. It was at the Fillmore West (1968) that the owner Bill Graham had his first psychedelic experience. He even played percussions with the band (This is where the real 1st cow bell came from). Previously, the Fillmore West was the Carousel Ballroom which was managed by the Grateful Dead, QuickSilver Messenger Service and Jefferson Airplane in 1968. This attempt of collaboration was an effort by the bands to manage themselves without the typical hassles.

Product Placement: The Dead Brand
The Grateful Dead's music may end up in a movie or in the background of your favorite TV shows. The Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) has signed a deal with Ice Nine Publishing (Grateful Dead's publishing company) that will keep the legacy of their songs in the fabric of our american culture. "Young people may know the name Grateful Dead, but not be as familiar with their music. If you're not putting yourself into relevant areas where you music can be discovered, your music could be lost to the younger generation," says Evan Lamberg, president of UMPG. '79 Phillie Spectrum: "Long Live the Dead"
An "Evening Magazine" segment presents a snapshot of the Grateful Dead and Phillie-Heads from 1979. That's right, a somewhat old and crackly TV interview of Jerry & Bobby backstage at the Phillie Spectrum has surfaced. It seems like an archival gem because it captures a very 70s style local Phillie TV broadcast quite perfectly, but, more importantly, it is video footage that many of us have never seen before. Mickey & Zakir
Mickey Hart will be playing with Zakir Hussain on October 12th at the SFJazz Center. The event is a tribute concert to the late Latin percussionist and Cuban-born Armando Peraza. The famed musical career of Peraza blessed him with playing with the likes of Jazz greats such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck and Dexter Gordon. Armando Peraza passed away in April.
Mickey is and was an amazing drummer for the Grateful Dead. He has played with many of the best percussionists from around the world. Mickey is apart of the world beat. He understands the solidarity that all drummers have with each other and it is quite fitting that he is to help memorialize one of his own. Get Tickets here.

Phil's Birthday Surprise
Phil Lesh celebrated his 74th birthday doing what he does best - jamming live. Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes surprised Phil while he was jamming at his Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, CA. He sang with the Phil and Friends for the 2nd set on "Bertha," "They Love Each Other," and PigPen's tune "Two Souls in Communion."He also sang one of my favorites "Come a Time."

Furthur - Press Pause
It's official. Bob Weir and Phil Lesh and the Furthur band played the last night of their 4 night stand in Mexico last week. The hugs on stage mark the beginning of their "hiatus" from playing as Furthur. Phil Lesh will continue with Phil & Friends in 2014 and Bobby is bringing RatDog back to life with shows at the Capitol Theatre in 2014 as well. The other guys will go with Phil or with Bobby, who knows. Whatever happens, it can easily be said that Furthur is one of the finest post Jerry bands.
