The 17th annual musical event - Gathering of the Vibes - is right around the corner. This event, which has it's roots in the Grateful Dead scene, has proven itself to be quite a popular event. Check out this article >
Shakedown Stream is a weekly Grateful Dead radio/podcast show hosted by Jer Bear. It is 4 to 5 hours in length. The first hour is a mix of old, rare, new, favorite and interesting songs of the Grateful Dead. Then Jer Bear plays a show - in its' entirety - selected from their 30 years run from 1965-1995. Afterwards, some more chestnuts may be played to help listeners ease on out of the Stream.

Dent May Covers Dead
"Back when Dead shows were a thing, the main drag of the parking lot where kind veggie burritos, ganja gooballs, and sundry wares of that ilk were at their highest concentration was called “Shakedown Street.” This was also the name of a song (and album) from the Dead’s blurry cocaine-and-disco era. Today, the track’s in the hands of Oxford, MS ambassador Dent May, who turns in a faithful rendition with a synth sound where Jerry’s iconic auto-wah lick would be. Also, this is a terrific opportunity to call May “Grateful Dent,” so that just happened. Here’s the MP3:" Click Here

I Like Brent
"*Howdy Jer Bear,
Very Cool idea to give choices only by the year. I have a tendency to look at sets I know are coming. It's a hard thing for me to see a date without looking at the way the show looks on paper (Deadbase.com). The song choice as well as their order, only tells a small tale, I enjoy listening to the unknown energy (the real deal). The element of surprise is a Grate element! Thanks for all you do for us!
Since I was told about your Stream, I've listened weekly. I also enjoy the Grate group of folks who gather, share tunes and life's happenings, and of course waking up to sip coffee with the family on the Facebook page. There is a special vibe within' that group, and i'm so Grateful to have stumbled upon it! Just wanted to thank you for a fantastic (complete Shows) radio program, that's geared towards deadheads. (Stanlee Mouse)"
*Thanks for Tossing in some early Brent Years This Week In Our Choices!*

Deadhead donates $500,000
"Scott Brittingham, an investor and philanthropist, attended his first Grateful Dead show when he was 16 years old and soon found himself, like many others, following the band from venue to venue.“\[Their concerts were these] cultural events that always felt so safe and affordable,” comments Brittingham. “The fans would always take you in and take care of you. You can talk about social networks all you want. Forget Facebook; this was the ultimate social network. It was a strongly woven fabric. I only hope every generation of Americans gets something like this.” (Read Article)

Library of Congress & The Dead
“The Grateful Dead just touched a nerve, and it’s still relevant in many ways today,” Hart told the AP. “It’s American-based music, but the combination of it, I guess, was the chemical that ignited, the energy that ignited the spirit of the people for many generations." Read Article

1974 - Truckin'
1974 - join us this week on Shakedown Stream for another featured Grateful Dead show from 1974. Last week we were in Roanoke, VA and this week we go up the east coast to the DC beltway of Landover, MD.
I have discovered what many may have already known - some of the best versions of Truckin' are from 1974. We will be treated to a very serious version of that autobiographical transport song that defined the lifestyle of deadheads on the road. Just like the literature of that time period, we traveled On The Road to find our identity, cruisin' through the veins and arteries of America pumping new red, white & blue blood through the heart of a new USA.
Also, we will hear more from The Mickey Hart Band and other nuggets of the Grateful Dead.
Happy Memorial Day
