There are so many Grateful Dead shows to choose from. Not all of them are worthy to be a featured show. The really old ones do are of poor sound quality, some of the shows are incomplete, and others lack the magic. Nonetheless, there are still so many shows to still pick from regardless of these obvious deficiencies.
Shakedown Stream is a weekly Grateful Dead radio/podcast show hosted by Jer Bear. It is 4 to 5 hours in length. The first hour is a mix of old, rare, new, favorite and interesting songs of the Grateful Dead. Then Jer Bear plays a show - in its' entirety - selected from their 30 years run from 1965-1995. Afterwards, some more chestnuts may be played to help listeners ease on out of the Stream.

Shakedown Stream: 11/10/09 set list
It is important to be consistent. I once heard a famous and revered Buddhist Monk - Thich Nhat Hanh - say that consistency is love. I believe this to be true and try to practice it regarding things that are intrinsically good. Posting the set lists weekly of each Shakedown Stream is such an endeavor. The Nov. 11, 2009 episode was made up of songs from November, except for PigPens' and the Bear Essential. The featured show was from November 1st too.

Dark Star Orchestra: John Kadlecik resigns
Letter To The Fans
Posted on: November 18, 2009
Dear DSO Fan -
Thank you for joining us and being a part of this continuing, long strange trip these past 12 years. Your support and excitement for the music has kept us going strong for over 1700 shows. Throughout the years, we've had transitions both difficult and uplifting, yet the positive energy of our fan base has continued to propel our mission onward for performing this important music and for keeping this vibrant scene alive.
That said, we, as a band are entering another chapter in this story.
Dark Star Orchestra's lead guitarist and one of its founding members, John Kadlecik, has decided to resign from DSO. John's last show with us will be on Dec 5 in Buffalo. DSO is supportive of John's choice and we wish him the very best.

Shakedown Stream Riders
I'm a relatively new podcast fan and I just want to thank you for getting
me back into the music on a steady basis. Your shows have become my
companion at the gym, while doing work around the hacienda, and any other
time I get a chance to plug in. Yesterday I was working on a trail I have
adopted and I caught the San Diego version of China Cat/Rider (with a
little Uncle John mixed in) from last week's show. What a perfect
motivator for dancing on the repaired water bar that needed tamping down.
Absolutely my favorite transition between songs, I was struck by the fact
that the last time I'd heard it on a local college station (to remain
unnamed) they actually cut it off before the Rider refrain. No respect!
Anyway, keep up the good works and if you run into Jess there at the
station, let her know that Althea's Dad is still a Deadhead!
P.S. Congratulations on show #100!!
Nick

Shakedown Stream Synchronicity
Jer Bear - Love the love of the stream. Was coming back from skiing in Colorado last Sunday, came around a bend near Santa Fe looking at the snow capped mountains, when the "Sante Fe" reference from Jack Straw came on from a previous stream, awesome! Also Love the weekly Pigpen tunes! You rock!

Shakedown Stream: 11/03/09 Set List
The featured show last week was suggested by a deadicated listener/streamer, Giff. It was his wife's first show - the Bill Graham Tribute show at the Polo Field in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. Many well known musicians joined the Grateful Dead for this show to honor Bill Graham: The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Bobby McFerrin, Jackson Browne, Aaron Neville, Tracy Chapman, Santana, Robin Williams, Journey, CSN&Y, Joan Baez & Kris Kristofferson. Also, John Popper and John Fogerty play a few tunes with the Dead. Overall, it was not a bad show; the jam out of Truckin' into the Other One was a sweet highlight along with a unique Wharf Rat.

The Digitized Dead
The Grateful Dead Archive, housed at the McHenry Library, has been awarded $615,175 by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to photograph and scan collection images and upload them. The public will be able to access the online collection and offer fans the opportunity to contribute to the collection by digitally submitting photos.
Christine Bunting, head of special collections and archives at McHenry, said the school will use the grant over 2½ years to archive what she said is the world's largest public collection of Dead memorabilia.
"The ultimate goal of making the archive digital is that everyone will have a Grateful Dead experience," Bunting said.
