I will try just a little bit harder,
I will try just a little bit more.
I will keep posting the set list each week. Click the jpeg file to the right and see clearly. It is nice to play some of the tracks from the new Road Trips from 5/15/70, Fillmore East, NYC. I also enjoy the latest stuff from the Furthur of May 2010. The Bear Essentials featuring the Lead Heads doing Shakedown Street on Shakedown Stream was very cool and impressive. Those kids can jam.
Tomorrow night Furthur will play in Lowell, Mass, the birthplace of Jack Kerouac, and the old textile mills of new England. The Boston Globe did a nice write up of the boys.
Shakedown Stream is a weekly Grateful Dead radio/podcast show hosted by Jer Bear. It is 4 to 5 hours in length. The first hour is a mix of old, rare, new, favorite and interesting songs of the Grateful Dead. Then Jer Bear plays a show - in its' entirety - selected from their 30 years run from 1965-1995. Afterwards, some more chestnuts may be played to help listeners ease on out of the Stream.

Rhythm Devils Announce August Dates
Looks like Billy & Mickey are going further too. They have announced dates for this August for the midwest and east coast. The Rhythm Devils will end up at the Higher Ground in Burlytown, Vermont in early September.
Peace - Jer Bear
- Don't forget, they will be getting their beat going in July out West when the Rhythm Devils start their July tour.
- We also will be waiting to hear the new Robert Hunter tunes with The 7 Walkers: Kreutzman and Papa Mali. In addition, you can download some of Billy's recent live material with BK3 at nugs.net.
- Right on - definitely check out the Rhythm Devils on this week featured show on Shakedown Stream where you can hear Billy & Mickey do "drumz" at the Alpine Valley show of July 1989.

Furthur cancels Vermont July 5th
Furthur just announced that the Shelbourne, Vermont July 5th show had to cancel. I suspect that the powers at be in Vermont were worried that the State's population would double in size because of the all the deadheads looking for a miracle ticket. I remember what happened at the High Gate, Vermont show in '95- "The Tour From Hell." No worries, all ticket holders will be refunded their money. However, a new show has been added as a replacement show at the Sherman Theatre in Stroudsburg, PA. It is already sold out.
Furthur has also begun their Summer Tour. They played in Rochester, NY Friday night and posted quite a set list.

Alpine Valley - July 1989
The featured show for this week will be one of the three shows from July of 1989 from Alpine Valley, East Troy, WI. You will have to tune in to find which night of the three shows will be Streaming on mvyradio.com this Tuesday @ 5pm. Shakedown Stream will then be posted on iTunes "after midnight."
The friends on Shakedown Stream have been asking for an Alpine Valley show for a long time and so it is now time to offer one up. This is one of my old boot-legs that I have not broken out in a long time. Sorry it took so long to pick a featured show and post it - I was got up in World Cup Soccer.
Peace - Jer Bear

Dead this week.
The featured show this week has been randomly selected ... from my collection of Dead. I recently read John K's (formerly of Dark Star Orchestra and now lead guitar with Furthur) interview with Blair Jackson. In it he says that he was somewhat surprised that Bobby Weir told him that '89-90 was one of his favorite years and one of the best time periods for the Grateful Dead. Who would have a better opinion than him, right? Ergo, let's do an '89 show this week.

Rainbow Theatre
I remember when some of my friends and new deadhead buddies had come back from England after seeing the Dead play at the Rainbow Theatre in 1981. I was so jealous and envious. These may not have been positive signs of a virtuous young lad on the road to enlightenment. However, it did get me stoked to venture out and see the Dead whenever I could.
Anyway, whatever, that was then and this is now. Someone asked and I obliged. We will feature one of the shows from the Spring 81 mini tour in England. They played 4 shows in London and 1 in West Germany with Pete Townsend of the Who. At this point, the German show is quite well known now that the video has been well circulated on DVD and various songs available on YouTube.

Next week's Stream
Featured show:
Boston Music Hall - 6/9/76.
This is the first show that the Dead played on the East Coast after what would be their longest hiatus as a band (the last show was 10/20/74 [if you don't include the 4 shows in 1975]). My friend Mad Dog once said to me that the Dead became the Dead with the release of "Blues for Allah." That statement has always stuck with me and still does. The set lists and song selection had not only changed in 1976, but now they had tunes like "Music Never Stopped" and "Franklin's Tower," and not to mention, but I shall, "Crazy Fingers." Now they were not just a re-hashed band from the 60s, or a folky americana rock band toying with country music who turn it into jam music, but now they found their niche and they became the Grateful Dead playing Grateful Dead.
