Shakedown Stream is a weekly Grateful Dead radio/podcast show hosted by Jer Bear. It is 4 to 5 hours in length. The first hour is a mix of old, rare, new, favorite and interesting songs of the Grateful Dead. Then Jer Bear plays a show - in its' entirety - selected from their 30 years run from 1965-1995. Afterwards, some more chestnuts may be played to help listeners ease on out of the Stream.

Big Bang Cosmic Debris
The debris from the cosmic big bang of the Grateful Dead continues to bounce around the stratosphere. As luck would have it, someone pressed the red "record" button and the Dead's jams have been captured. This week on Shakedown Stream we celebrate another show that possesses a Dark Star > St Stephen > The Eleven > Death Have No Mercy.
Many of us grew up listening to this song arrangement on the "Live Dead" album - over and over again. Gone are the days where you have to worry about turning the album over to listen to the other side and the rest of the jam - the Stream keeps the songs flowing.

Death Have No Mercy
This particular arrangement of Grateful Dead songs - which are ever so perfectly placed in the exact genetic sequence representing the truest code of acid rock from San Francisco of 1969 - will be featured show this week. -It contains everything that is necessary for a pure psychedelic journey including marshmallows. It tells a story, it gets biblical, there is singing, astronomy is involved, a reference to an LSD trip is made (maybe yours), the journey happens, then Death - rebirth too.

Bobby Celebrates Jerry
Late Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia would have turned 70 on August 1, and his longtime band mate Bob Weir will be among the many musicians taking part in a special concert event to commemorate the occasion.
Jambands.com reports that the show, dubbed Move Me Brightly: Celebrating Jerry Garcia's 70th Birthday, will be held August 3 at Weir's TRI Studios in San Rafael, California. The concert also will include performances from Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, Phish bass player Mike Gordon, RatDog/Furthur keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and Chris Robinson Brotherhoodguitarist Neal Casal, among others. More guest stars also are expected to be added to the lineup.

Happy 4th of July
Dear fellow citizens, please make sure that you have all of the necessary supplies for this 4th of July holiday. For example, this Dancing Bear ice cube tray is something no deadhead wants to be without on this special holiday. The Dancing Bears ice cubes are an excellent way to keep your homemade lemonade or even that special mystery concoction that Aunt Mary brings every year nice and cool. If you look at right, you may even see the bears dancing and singing your favorite Grateful Dead song.

This Week's ...
The theme for this month is psychedelic in nature (this may seem redundant when speaking of 60s Dead). Shakedown Stream is featuring Grateful Dead shows that have the Dark Star>St Stephen>The Eleven>Death Have No Mercy set lists. Such a standard arrangement of songs is not only worthy of our attention from a historical point of view, but, just as importantly, these jams are superb representations of acid rock n' roll.
As deadheads, we need to always to remind ourselves of how the music started and its' evolution so "...with a rose in and out of the garden we go." |
