Dead Boot-legs ... 1978

The "interesting set list" theme for the month brings us to our last installment for November. The featured show for this month - believe it or not - is a Passaic, New Jersey show from November of 1978. I picked this show because of sentimental reasons.

It was one of the first Dead boot-legs that I heard where they played tunes into each other that I would of have never expected. It turned me on to the Grateful Dead on a deeper level. I know that it is a very popular and probably over played Grateful Dead show, but it has a significant place in my memory banks. Actually, when I first tripped to this show at Peter Coley's house, it was on vinyl - it was 6 records. I loved it and still do.

Another One ...

This week's shakedown stream has a sweet set-list, plus a delicious assortment of Grateful Dead songs from the fine gentlemen of San Francisco. There are many twists coming are way.

Join us this week on Shakedown Stream for a special Thanksgiving presentation. Check out the Grateful Dead perform their only gig in El Paso, Texas. Also, we will continue our conversation with Len Dell'Amico sharing his stories about the Dead as well as his new movie "Everything Must Go" (everythingmustgothemovie.

Eclectic-fying set lists

Eclectic-fying set lists are fun. Finding shows with set lists that bend the imagination is a search I enjoy. This week I came upon an '88 show from Chicago that will suffice for this month's theme.

Thatz right - the theme for this month explores interesting variances in the magnetic field within the Grateful Dead world. Some years are better for this theme - like 1985 - however, the performance level may not be what we like.

Nonetheless and furthurmore - the goal is to move the energy and focus around from week to week. Also, we will check out some Jerry Garcia Band, new songs the Furthur shows from their Midwest tour and good 'ole acoustic Grateful Dead.

Eclectic Grateful Dead

The eclectic Dead theme for this month is an exploration of various Grateful Dead shows where the set-list is unusual. There is nothing "usual" about Dead music in terms of rock 'n roll - we already know that. However, if you follow the shows from year after year, you can get an idea of what to expect and what is a typical set-list. Yet, from time to time, there are shows that are completely out of the norm.

This week we will travel to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California from 1985. The set-list is clearly an eclectic arrangement.
