Vote for the Stream

It's audience participation time on Shakedown Stream. Every week during the entire month of March, there will be a list of Grateful Dead shows here to vote for. This week's winner was from Tinley Park, IL in 1990. The level of participation was awesome. Look for the poll in the upper right hand corner of this blog page, and vote for your favorite show. Runner-up shows remain on the list, and every week 1 more will be added. (Click on the image for last week's set list)

Also, check out the latest stuff coming out of Phil & Bobby's Furthur tour.

Furthur into to Mass

Phil & Bobby tripped Furthur into Mass last night. They played in Amherst, Mass. The Grateful Dead only performed one time in Amherst (UMASS - 5/21/79) during their 30 year run. Therefore, it is quite a big deal for them to bring the sound and tripsters back together in this progressive and hip college town. Check out the set list:

Furthur to Cornell

Phil & Bobby have taken the tour Furthur to Cornell Univ. After beginning their tour in Miami and playing venues in the South, they finally made it to the Northeast - the finger lakes region of upstate New York. Barton Hall is the site of the famed Grateful Dead show of 5/8/77 where they played one of the most popular Dead shows of all time. Tonight they broke out Morning Dew which they also played back in '77. The above photo shows the "savage" John Kadlecik belting it out - maybe it is him singing Morning Dew. Below is the set list of tonight's show. Happy Valentine's Day everybody.

Furthur on the Strean

This week on Shakedown Stream, we will continue with the Texas theme for the month of February. Last week we featured the Grateful Dead in Houston from 1977. This week we will feature the Dead at Manor Downs, Austin, TX on July 4th, 1981. It is a classic from this time period and sweet sounding too. I will also stream some of the newest music from the Furthur tour - the boys down South where it just snowed - how weird. "It is a Stream beyond description."

Episode #111 - Dead Scraps

Last week's episode of Shakedown Stream (click on image to enlarge) had a different type of theme. Instead of playing a complete Grateful Dead show, I gathered together some of my "Dead Scraps" and put them on the Stream.

Many of us DeadHeads have many tidbits of incomplete shows. For example, the recent "Road Trips" release from Rhino records of 12/28/79, Oakland, CA. I possessed a cassette tape of the 2nd set of that show for years. I always wanted the 1st set, but for some reason, I could never get my hands on it. The thing is, many of my Dead Scraps are awesome, but because they are incomplete, they will not ever be featured on Shakedown Stream.

For instance, I have had part of 9/19/70 Fillmore East for many years, as so many other DeadHeads, but was not sure when I would have had the opportunity to stream it on mvyradio.com. It is so good and juicy that it deserves to have its' due. Also, I included the soundcheck of 2/22/74 from Winterland Arena. Some of the songs such as It Must of Been the Roses are new tunes for the Dead.

The rest of the month of February will feature Grateful Dead shows from the state of Texas. See ya next week - Jer Bear
