As the Stream becomes longer and deeper, it becomes harder to remember all of the feature shows. Fortunately, I caught myself because we have already featured Boise, ID '83 show. Therefore, we will now move on to Dec. '82, Oakland, CA. Who knows, maybe I have featured that show too. If so, we will re-group and come up with another show.

Love the stream. Found it a month after I started walking August 2010 at 245lbs. Now in July 2011, I'm running 3 miles and walking 3 miles EVERY day and using the podcast to do so...down to 195 and a happy marriage. Excellent music and commentary...and thanks. I'll be donating this year.

This week, we will return to Columbus, Ohio, but this time, to another time and place - 1978. It is one of those shows from David Gans' collection from all his years as host of the DeadHour and his exclusive access to the Vault.

It All Streams into One

Happy Birthday Robert Hunter

Robert Hunter is the guy who wrote the lyrics for all those Grateful Dead songs that we love. The first songs that he wrote lyrics to were "Dark Star" and "China Cat Sunflower." He then became the guy who wrote the lyrics to "Sugar Magnolia", "Ripple", "Truckin", "Brokedown Palace", "Box of Rain" and the popular "Touch of Grey." He was not up on stage jamming in the band per se, but he did create the words to songs we all danced to while they were "Playing in the Band" (he wrote the lyrics to that song too).  

Robert Hunter was born on June 23rd.

Robert Hunter is best known as a non-performing lyricist for the Grateful Dead. He is also a recording artist in his own right, a poet, and a translator. Hunter began contributing lyrics to the Dead at the invitation of his friend, Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia, as of the group's third album, Aoxomoxoa, in 1969. Since then, he wrote some of the Dead's most memorable words, including "Truckin'" ("What a long, strange trip it's been") and the 1987 comeback hit "Touch of Grey." Hunter began recording solo albums on the Dead's record label in 1974 and continued sporadically since.

Congratulations Boston !

In honor of the Boston Bruins' victory Wednesday night and
winning the Stanley Cup - Shakedown Stream will feature a Grateful Dead show from the city of Boston. You will have to join us to find out what show it will be and is, but that is half the fun - mystery and discovery!

For many of us, the original Boston Garden was where our 1st Dead show went down. That place had a way of swaying and moving to the music like no other. I even got busted by the cops for selling tie dye "Crazy Finger" T-Shirts before the show. (never before the show, never before the show, not before the show ...). Anyway, during the show, you would look up into the rafters and see the banners of The Bruins and The Celtics, and, sometimes, tie dye banners and dancing leprechauns.

Bobby's cool room goes Furthur

Last night, out in San Rafael, CA, Bob Weir invited some friends over to his new digs. As some of you may already know, Bobby has just recently opened a new studio called TRI Studios. It is high tech and on the cutting edge of technology and fantasy. Bobby calls it his spaceship (some things never change). Anyway, last night, Furthur played their first show at TRI Studios and streamed the show live on the web for those who paid $19.95 for it. I believe this is the beginning of something special as well as revolutionary. Imagine if this technology existed back in 1977 and we could watch a show on our  iPad.

Looks Like Phil & Bobby. They keep going further and then even Furthur. They are performing at the Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View, California this June 3rd and 4th. "One More Saturday Night"
