Save MVY from Jaws

After taking a major hit during the recession, Aritaur Communications, parent company of Martha’s Vineyard’s WMVY, accepted an offer to sell the station’s 3,000-watt FM signal to WBUR, which will use it as a “repeater” station to broadcast its NPR-affiliated programming to the Cape and islands. The station has launched an effort to raise $600,000 by the end of January to facilitate a transition from a commercial, airwave radio station to a nonprofit, Internet-based one.
