Our theme for next month starts us off on the right note. It is "A Streamer's Choice!" That's right - the tables have turned from last month's Jer Bear's Choice. Now you are all on the Hot Seat. Your vote will pick the featured show every week in January of 2011. What a perfect way to start the New Year - give the deadicated listeners of Shakedown Stream the ability to direct the Stream.
Every week, go to ShakedownStream.blogspot and vote for the Grateful Dead show of your choice. I will put together a group of shows for your voting pleasure from a particular tour. For example, next week select a show from April of '82. The show that receives the most votes by Monday afternoon will be the featured show.

Peace - Jer Bear
Shakedown Stream is a weekly Grateful Dead radio/podcast show hosted by Jer Bear. It is 4 to 5 hours in length. The first hour is a mix of old, rare, new, favorite and interesting songs of the Grateful Dead. Then Jer Bear plays a show - in its' entirety - selected from their 30 years run from 1965-1995. Afterwards, some more chestnuts may be played to help listeners ease on out of the Stream.

This week ...
Shakedown Stream this week continues with the Jer Bear's Choice theme. It is an opportunity to look for live Grateful Dead material in those hard to find places on the shelf. I have been choosing live shows that are incomplete and would never make it as a "featured show" on Shakedown Stream. I am clearing the shelf before we start the new year.
- Also in the news, Bob Weir and Mickey Hart sat in with Sammy Hagar this last Saturday night for a holiday benefit show in their backyard - Mill Valley, CA.
- Billy K and the 7 Walkers are on tour and played in New York City this past weekend.
- Phil & Bobby's Furthur are gearing up for their New Year's shows in San Francisco, CA.

and connect with our loved ones, dear family &

Dead Boot-legs ... 1978
The "interesting set list" theme for the month brings us to our last installment for November. The featured show for this month - believe it or not - is a Passaic, New Jersey show from November of 1978. I picked this show because of sentimental reasons.
It was one of the first Dead boot-legs that I heard where they played tunes into each other that I would of have never expected. It turned me on to the Grateful Dead on a deeper level. I know that it is a very popular and probably over played Grateful Dead show, but it has a significant place in my memory banks. Actually, when I first tripped to this show at Peter Coley's house, it was on vinyl - it was 6 records. I loved it and still do.

Eclectic-fying set lists
Eclectic-fying set lists are fun. Finding shows with set lists that bend the imagination is a search I enjoy. This week I came upon an '88 show from Chicago that will suffice for this month's theme.
Thatz right - the theme for this month explores interesting variances in the magnetic field within the Grateful Dead world. Some years are better for this theme - like 1985 - however, the performance level may not be what we like.
Nonetheless and furthurmore - the goal is to move the energy and focus around from week to week. Also, we will check out some Jerry Garcia Band, new songs the Furthur shows from their Midwest tour and good 'ole acoustic Grateful Dead.
Peace - Jer Bear

Eclectic Grateful Dead
The eclectic Dead theme for this month is an exploration of various Grateful Dead shows where the set-list is unusual. There is nothing "usual" about Dead music in terms of rock 'n roll - we already know that. However, if you follow the shows from year after year, you can get an idea of what to expect and what is a typical set-list. Yet, from time to time, there are shows that are completely out of the norm.
This week we will travel to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California from 1985. The set-list is clearly an eclectic arrangement.
