Happy New Year!!
Shakedown Stream is a weekly Grateful Dead radio/podcast show hosted by Jer Bear. It is 4 to 5 hours in length. The first hour is a mix of old, rare, new, favorite and interesting songs of the Grateful Dead. Then Jer Bear plays a show - in its' entirety - selected from their 30 years run from 1965-1995. Afterwards, some more chestnuts may be played to help listeners ease on out of the Stream.

It is here and just in time for Christmas - the iPhone app for mvyradio. Now you can listen to mvy on your iPhone and, more importantly, listen to Shakedown Stream podcasts on your iPhone. mvyradio - blue lobstahs and streamers.

WMVY gave me a miracle this morning. I was in the dentist's chair earlier today having a root canal procedure when it happened. It was one of those classic dreaded dental scenes - pain, infection, and high-pitched drilling sounds. Apparently, it was taking longer than normal because of some complication (long story). My anxiety increased as my dentist reached the abscessed root area. Just at that moment, "I Need A Miracle" by the Grateful Dead came on the air (my dentist office plays mvyradio on their sound system).
Many of us DeadHeads grew up with Relix magazine. It was an essential way to stay connected with the Grateful Dead scene. Believe it or not, we did not have Facebook to help us communicate with each other or Twitter for us to instantaneously get the set list from the show. As Toni Brown says in her interview on Shakedown Stream, Relix magazine was started as a place for tapers and Deadheads to connect with each other. It was started by fans - for the fans.
Jer,
Starting next year, I am starting a new segment to our show called - Fan Jams. Anyone out there who plays Grateful Dead songs on a guitar, banjo, mandolin, keyboard or whatever ... I will play it on our Stream. Record it, burn it and mail it to me at mvyradio (see address below) on Martha's Vineyard.

The Featured Show for this coming week will be 02/01/70, The Warehouse, New Orleans, LA with guitarist Peter Green. Mic Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac joins them on Turn On Your Lovelight. This show kinda represents a benefit concert - proceeds went to defray legal costs after the Dead's bust in New Orleans. As the line in Truckin' goes "Busted, down on bourbon street. Set up, like a bowling pin." I just wanted to drop you a note of thanks for the stream of August 4 2009.I live in New Orleans and lost over 200 show recordings collected over thirty years to Hurricane Katrina. My favorite tape was of a show I attended in the early 80's, Jerry solo acoustic at the Capital Theatre in Passaic New Jersey. Your Jerry tribute contained an acoustic show almost identical to
the tape I lost. Thanks to you and the Stream I am building my collection
again.
